Built by the Hampshire Regiment in January 1942 the Safi Strip linked up Luqa & Hal Far. This was a track along which blast pens were constructed both sides in the rocks
to protect aircraft from bomb blasts & flying shrapnel. Next to these pens slit trenches were dug to protect personnel from attacks & to fire back using rifles & Bren guns.
Formally the main bomb dump for Luqa airfield.
The opening date for this strip was probably 13th May 1942.
