An attempt to supply Spitfires to Malta.

HMS Eagle & HMS Argus both aircraft carriers were originally detailed to form the heart of this convoy. The elevators or lifts used to bring aircraft from the lower hangers to the flight deck on HMS Argus were too small to accomodate the fixed Spitfire wingspan. On February 28th 1942 a problem was discovered with the 90 gallon long range fuel tanks aboard Spitfires on HMS Eagle & the convoy was returned to Gibraltar.
