Floating Crane

Floating crane lowering one of the bridge sections into place at the entrance to Grand Harbour ( St. Elmo's Viaduct ). This was later damaged by Italian motor torpedo boats on July 26th 1941. Only the center pillars under the right hand end of the span remain today.

Floating crane centre / right positioned over HMS Illustrious during air raids trying to sink the aircraft carrier. The crane was positioned here to try & prevent low level bombing attacks along the flight deck.

The floating crane was bombed & sunk in April 1942.
